long time no post

Hello fellow bloggers! I know it's been a long time. This summer has been so busy! I am meeting with my new team on Tuesday and I am so excited! Last year my team was made up of 4 women including me. My 3 teammates all moved on to new schools for this next year and I will miss them terribly, but the good news is I have a whole new team this year! We are a team of 5 including a co-worker from my previous 4th grade team. I have been BEGGING her to come join me in first and she finally did! I am so happy to be teaching with her again. Then we have a kinder teachers coming up to first. She is a ball of fun! Then we have two new teachers coming from outside of our school. I'm excited for new blood :)

We are getting together on Tuesday to talk "shop". I can't wait! I am going to be giving each of the teachers a "Recess bucket" How many times does a kid come up and have a boo boo? So here are my two questions:

1. Has anyone ever went to an entirely NEW team? Or stayed in the same grade (like me) and got a whole new team. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
2. Do you have something like a recess bucket? What do you put in it?

  1. I have never heard of having a Recess Bucket...but I'm loving it! We have notes that have to go with the student to the nurse's office so I'd include some of those with a pen, maybe some positive reward stickers or certificates...for when you catch the kiddos playing nice?? Thinking I need to make one of these!
    Thanks for sharing!

  3. My first year our six-member team only had one returning member from the previous year. Most of us were not only new to the team but also new to teaching so it was quite an experience. We definitely grew a lot and were able to gain a fresh perspective. Having a teacher move up from Kinder is going to be great when you're doing your task analysis and asking yourself, "What prior knowledge do our kids have?" She'll be able to give you some great insight on that. And with someone moving down, as you know, she'll be able to offer that "this is where there headed" view. It sounds like a wonderful model for vertical alignment! And then new teachers always bring new ideas and new resources so I think your team is in for a wonderful year!
