Five for Friday {and giveaway winners}

Without prolonging it any longer, here are the winners to Lindsey Griffith's and I's giveaway!

Congrats ladies! Be expecting an email from either Lindsay or I or one of the giveaway contributors either tonight or tomorrow!

Amanda, the email you gave us didn't work. Please email me at flyinghighinfirstgrade@gmail.com by Monday so we can send you your unit!

Now on to Five for Friday! My 2nd to last one before summer. Oh summer. You can't come soon enough!

can I get an amen?
In first grade this week we have been camping using activities from my "A Camping We Will Go". If you are still in school (like me) this unit is a must have for a fun week filled with camping and summer safety fun! Check out what we did this week!
1. We started off the week brainstorming what we knew about camping and then we came up with camp names. The names they came up with were so funny. My favorite was "toothless wonder" HA!

2. Here are some of the things we learned about this week. Sun Safety, Swim Safety, Bike Safety, Campfire Safety. We also did hiking safety, but forget to take a picture of that. Opps!

3. We brainstormed ways we could get hurt this summer and what we would need to make sure we could take care of any boo boos. We learned about first aid and made our own first aid kits.

4. And the funnest part of the week was writing our "how to make s'mores". They worked so hard on these books and couldn't wait to eat their s'mores. For one of the steps, one of my sweeties asked if in their book should they write "next, roast the marshmallow over the fire" or "next, put the s'more in the microwave". Since that's how we made ours :) Haha. Some of the other 1st grade classes actually put their entire s'more in aluminum foil and put it outside. It actually worked! Try it!

5. And last but not least I am jumping on the healthy eating band wagon and getting these last few pesky pounds off! I have recently hooked up with alot of teacher friends on instagram and we all on this app called my fitness pal that allows you to get support from friends! Go check out Ashley's blog, Ms. BBZ, she has some fun stuff planned to make this healthy lifestyle change fun! It's been great so far! And on top of the app I am starting the Advocare 24 day challenge starting tomorrow. So wish me luck!

Have a good weekend and go check out everyone's Five for Fridays over at Doodle Bugs!

End of the Year Gifts and Awards Linky

Towards the end of the year I know we all love to see what everyone is doing for their end of the year gift. Sometimes I am in love with my gifts for years and other years I need a new idea! Come link up with me and share your amazing ideas in hopes that you can give another teacher a new idea.

Here is my end of the year gift and award.

I love to highlight my student's character traits. So I love using my end of the year awards that focus on their character traits. The moms and dads love them too! It's a keepsake for sure.

Along with their award they receive a picture of them and I with the character trait written on a label and put on the back of the frame. I have past kids that tell me they still have their frame that sits on the dresser in their room. Makes my heart smile :)

The "w" fell off :) oops! Told you that these things are loved and kept a long time.
back of the frame
Here is how I make the frames.
1. I buy the 5x7 frames from Walmart (98 cents a piece)
2. I have a parents come in take pictures of me and the kids (tried self portraits, not so much!)
3. I buy ribbon and 3D stickers from Hobby Lobby for the frames.
4.Then I cut pieces of ribbon for the edges of the frame. I use black for the boys and pink for the girls. I hot glue them onto the frame. Make sure to wrap it around the back edge and glue on the back too. See the back of the frame picture for a reference.
5. I use my amazing cricut machine and use the sticky paper (Hobby Lobby) to cut their names out. You can also use a paint pen. I've done it that way too.
6. Put the label on the back and VOILLA!
I hope you enjoy reading about all the fun end of the year gifts and get some great ideas! Don't forget to link up and use the linky button!

Let's Get Acquainted Sunday!

Before I head off to bed, I just had to link up with Latoya Reed from "Flying Into First Grade". I haven't linked up with her in awhile, so it's definitely over do!

This linky's topic is "Meet Two of My Bloggy Friends".

I love this idea of highlighting teachers that we may not have met before. Here are my two.

First up, is Amanda Richardson over at Mrs. Richardson's Class.
I guess she doesn't "technically" count as a bloggy friend because we know each other "outside" of the blogging world too. Amanda and I met the summer of our freshman year of college when we both worked at a children's summer camp. We were instant friends and have been ever since! We both went to Texas A&M and got to take most of our education classes together. She was always amazing to work with when we did group projects. She's a hard worker and puts everything she has into whatever she's doing.

Now that we are both in the blogging world, I know that if I have any questions, Amanda is my first stop. She's always willing to help and I'm blessed to have her as a friend and a bloggy friend!

My 2nd bloggy friend is Lindsay Griffith over at For the Love of First Grade.
I'm pretty sure God meant for us to be friends! She lives in Houston, not far from me in Dallas. And I am SO stinkin' excited that she will be coming to Dallas for the TX blogger meet up I'm hosting this summer. It's so much fun to finally get to meet these amazing women that you've made relationships with over the internet! (creepy? eh, oh well!)

I'm so glad that we've found each other in the blogging world! Speaking of blogging world, she and I are throwing a giveaway as we both have surpassed 150 followers on our blog! Check out the contributors below.
I'm sure you follow most of them, but if there are any that you don't, start following now so when the giveaway starts (May 24) all you have to do is CLICK! Yep I follow her, and her, and her! At least that's how I feel when I do those rafflecopters. My blog reel is CRAZY LONG!

Even today my sister saw my blog reel and asked "do you really follow all of those blogs?"

"Heck yes I do! And I'm darn proud of it!" :)

Have a good week guys and make sure to go link up with Latoya!

Five for Friday

Holy moly! I am whipped. Today was field day and it was the first real HOT day in Dallas. Hot and MUGGY. Terrible! So as I'm writing this Five for Friday I have an ice cold strawberry margarita next to me. On to Five for Friday!

#1 First off, here's a picture of the kiddos at Field Day. They had so much fun!

#2 And not to brag, but we are the tug-o-war champions for Field Day 2013. The kids are on cloud nine.

#3 Next up, for the last 3 weeks of school my students are working on their "All About Me" books. They are loving it! I wish I had made this at the beginning of the year so that they could compare their beginning of the year book and their end of the year book. Check it out in my TpT store.

#4 We have been studying fractions in math and the kids absolutely loved it! Here are some activities we did this week.

#5 I saved the best for last! Because I have such amazing followers I am throwing a giveaway with Lindsay Griffith from "For the Love of First Grade". We have become quick bloggy friends and she and I have been growing at about the same rate so I thought, why not?! Let's have a giveaway! Take a look at who is involved and a couple more will be added before the giveaway starts! Make sure you follow these lovely ladies blogs, facebook, TpT store. Links will be included when the giveaway starts.

Have a great weekend!
